Brief description of role

We are seeking a Kit Room Technician to support the day-to-day duties of our Wales facility. Working from CineArk’s facility in Cardiff, the Kit Room Technician will play a vital role in ensuring our business runs smoothly, and our customers are satisfied. The right candidate will be process-driven with a good degree of flexibility, initiative and common sense.

You will also be required to travel and work at CineArk’s London and Dublin offices for short periods of time to cover demand at these locations.

You will be someone who enjoys problem solving and learning how to use technical equipment. You will be a team player with a positive outlook and a can-do attitude, and have a practical, hands-on approach with the ability to manage workload and work to strict deadlines with attention to detail.  

The successful candidate will be provided with extensive training during their time as a Kit Room Technician, experiencing all areas of our Kit Room process: logistics, administration, driving, check-in, check-out and support, learning various skills and developing a detailed understanding of industry equipment. After this training period, we have exciting opportunities for progression within the growing company, or you’ll have an excellent grounding to prepare you for a future career on set as a film technician.   

Main Responsibilities:

  • Daily duties in the Kit Room, including assisting with logistics, deliveries and customer service
  • Building and testing the AV technical equipment for hire
  • Goods In – receiving deliveries/post and processing related paperwork, checking technical equipment is in good working order
  • Goods Out – looking after all outbound collections, ensuring equipment is picked, packed and loaded
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software issues
  • Data management – backing up and transcoding material using DaVinci Resolve
  • Adhering to all legislation requirements for warehousing and goods handling
  • Maintaining standards of health & safety, hygiene and security in the work environment
  • Managing paperwork for goods in/out, inventory control, regular stock counts, answering client/supplier queries, general administration duties
  • Ensuring good housekeeping within the facility
  • Shipping goods – preparing goods for shipping and following up on their arrival
  • Receiving and processing new products, asset listing and uploading information onto our dedicated asset management system
  • Maintaining the inventory/stock control systems to ensure equipment is located, stored and transferred correctly; ensure the stock inventory is accurate
  • Driving vans for delivery and collection of equipment to and from film studios. This could occasionally involve early starts and late finishes 
  • Cleaning Equipment – care needed with expensive technical equipment
  • Managing your time to ensure all tasks are completed by deadline and raising capacity issues when they arise.

Other Duties:

  • Electric pallet stacker duties – training provided
  • Cable making – training provided
  • PAT testing – training course provided
  • Mechanical cart maintenance – training provided
  • Monitor Calibration – training provided

Candidate Requirements:

  • Manual driving licence
  • Flexible attitude to work arrangements including daily tasks and working hours
  • Flexibility and ability to travel regularly to CineArk’s London and Dublin offices
  • Ability to meet deadlines, delivering consistency in results
  • Flexible approach to their daily tasks and working hours
  • Physically active – moving and handling of equipment required
  • Practical, basic DIY skills
  • Common sense – ability to work unsupervised
  • Conscientious and positive attitude with the ability to work under pressure
  • Flexibility and the ability to juggle tasks – the company priorities can change unexpectedly, candidates need to be able to change duties at short notice, in line with the business needs
  • Discretion – working in sensitive areas of film production
  • Computer literate – competent with MS Office, Excel, Word and Apple devices with an ability to learn new programs and applications quickly

Desirable but not essential:

  • Interest in electronics / computers or AV, film equipment
  • Relevant experience with technology and DIY
  • Higher education
  • Understanding of Carnet or ATA Carnet
  • Knowledge of DaVinci Resolve, AVID Media Composer and Pomfort Silverstack

Working Conditions

  • Monday to Friday 40 hours average per week – some weekend hours may be required occasionally
  • Hours of Business – 7am to 7pm covered in shift patterns with the flexibility to work outside of these hours if required.
